The 39-year-old man who allegedly carjacked a family with young kids on Sunday morning before driving erratically around Palmerston and ultimately colliding with another vehicle while driving on the wrong side of Tiger Brennan Drive has been slapped with multiple charges, NT Police said.

It is alleged the man entered a Toyota Kluger with two kids in the back seat while it was parked at a fuel station in Palmerston around 4:50am on Sunday. The kids were able to exit the vehicle before the man left the station and proceeded to drive dangerously around the CBD.

The man then took the Kluger for a joy ride on the wrong side of Tiger Brennan Drive before colliding with a Holden Commodore, resulting in a dangerous car rollover. Fortunately, the driver of the Commodore only received minor injuries.

Police said the man was arrested at the scene and was today charged with recklessly endangering life, criminal damage, robbery, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving with an expired licence and driving in a manner at speed dangerous.

He was expected to front Darwin Local Court today.

  1. This same person was only released by Police approx 1 hour prior to stealing this car. Out committing crime, after the Police gave him bail 1 hour earlier, its almost beyond belief. That shows the state of our police and justice system!
