A man is on the run after attacking another man on the street with an “edged weapon”, leaving him in hospital with cuts to his face and neck, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement police are looking for witnesses to the attack where a man, whose age was not given, attacked a 25-year-old man he knew, with an edged weapon on Trower Road, Tiwi, about noon on Tuesday.

He said the offender left the scene in a vehicle before emergency services arrived, and the victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with cuts to his neck and face.

Police are asking anyone who saw the attack to call them on 131 444, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
