Darwin company Aspire has been awarded the $18.2 million contract to design and build the new ward at Royal Darwin Hospital, which the government expects to be open in the middle of next year, the Health Minister has said.

Minister Selena Uibo said work on the 32-bed modular ward would begin in the coming months and the intention was for the ward to be built off site, which would mean it would be built quicker, and reduce disruption to staff, patients and the community. She said it would open in the middle of next year.
