NT Police are investigating the suspicious death of 44-year-old man who was found dead in bed at a Gillen residence Sunday morning after reportedly suffering head and lower body injuries.
Police said in a statement Monday that they were contacted around 9:10am Sunday morning about the man after he was found unresponsive in bed at the Nicker Crescent unit.
Emergency services responded and the 44-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene, “with injuries to his head and lower body”, police said.
“The cause of death is unknown, however police are treating it as suspicious at this stage,” said NT Police media director Mark Wilton in a statement.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and timing of the man’s injuries.
“Southern Investigations have carriage of the investigation and urge anyone with information to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference P26148658. Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au.”
Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Ordelman said at a press conference later Monday that an autopsy was scheduled to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
He said there were “indications of a party in the street” on Saturday night, but that investigations were continuing.
“At this stage we’re still interviewing neighbours, interviewing people who were at the residence and conducting further preliminary inquiries in relation to the matter,” he said.
Acting Supt Ordelman said police had not identified any potential suspects at this stage, but said he did not believe there is any risk to the broader community.
