Man fined $5000 for trying to leave quarantine on day 14

A 20-year-old man has been fined $5,056 after trying to leave mandatory quarantine on his last day of detention, NT Police said. 

NT Police spokesman Rob Cross said in a statement the man tried to leave the Howard Springs quarantine facility around 10.30am on Sunday before being caught by police. 

Mr Cross said the man remained in quarantine until the isolation period was over. 

He did not say how the man tried to leave or why.

Last Tuesday Commander Shaun Gill told Mix 104.9 there has been about six $5,056 fines for breaching quarantine.
