Northern Territory Police have charged a man with recklessly endangering life over an alleged assault of his partner in their Palmerston house on the weekend.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Warren Scott said the 40-year-old was also charged with aggravated assault, strangling in a domestic relationship, and failure to rescue in the alleged attack of his 32-year-old female partner in Woodroffe.

Police did not say exactly where the alleged attack took place or when.

Snr Sgt Scott said the woman was in a serious condition in Royal Darwin Hospital while the man had been remanded in custody.

“Northern Territory Police will continue to seek out and prosecute domestic violence offenders in a zero tolerance approach,” he said.

“We also remind everyone of the mandatory reporting obligations surrounding domestic violence.”

Snr Sgt Scott said police encouraged people affected by domestic violence to report it by calling 131 444 or to call 000 in an emergency.

Victims may also seek help by calling 1800 RESPECT, a national counselling and support service for sexual and domestic violence.
