A 45-year-old West Arnhem man has been charged with child abuse offences following an NT Police Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team investigation.

Police said detectives from JACET executed a search warrant yesterday afternoon confiscating a mobile telephone that allegedly contained child abuse material in the man’s possession.

They did not name the community.

The man was charged with six counts of transmitting child abuse material, one count of possessing or controlling child abuse material and one count of accessing child abuse material.

The man was arrested and will appear in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.

“Child abuse in all its forms is reprehensible and anyone who views child abuse material is committing a crime,” Detective Sergeant Mark Cronin said. “Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“You can also make a report online by visiting the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation via the Report Abuse button at www.accce.gov.au/report.”
