Man charged with arson after allegedly starting fire at Darwin residential building

A 32-year-old Darwin man who allegedly started a fire in a Lindsay Street residence on Saturday evening while out on bail has been arrested and charged with arson, NT Police said.

Police said they have received reports of the incident around 6pm on Saturday, but residents of the building had helped extinguished the fire.

The Serious Crime Squad’s investigation led to the arrest of the Darwin man Thursday morning.

They did not disclose any information as to how the man allegedly lit the fire or his motives.

The man remains in police custody and will appear at the Darwin Local Court on Friday.

He was charged with arson and breach of bail.

Despite the man’s arrest, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said investigations are continuing.

He urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference number 9847037.
