A man in a remote community has been charged after allegedly breaking into a house and indecently assaulting two children, and then breaking into another house and indecently assaulting a woman, NT Police said.

Police and Fyles Government crime marketing manager Sita Bacher said in a statement the 31-year-old man had been charged with two counts of indecently dealing with a child under 16, two counts of indecent assault, and two counts of aggravated burglary.

The offending took place in the Roper Gulf region but police did not say what community it happened in.

Ms Bacher said that at an unspecified time in the early hours of Sunday morning, police received reports that the man allegedly broken into a house and indecently assaulted two children under the age of 16. The children’s ages were not given. Ms Bacher said the children did not know the man.

The man then broke into another house where he indecently assaulted a woman that he knew, she said.

Ms Bacher said Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch detectives arrested the man in the community on the same day and he was remanded to appear in Katherine Local Court on Monday.
