Man charged over fatal crash near Katherine

One man has been charged over the death of a woman in a crash outside Katherine on Friday, while another man died on Sunday following a crash near Kulgera, NT Police have said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner told the NT News the vehicle in the Katherine incident rolled, hit a tree and burst into flames” 40km south of the town on the Stuart Hwy.

NT police spokesperson Rob Cross said in a statement the victim was believed to be a 38-year-old woman, however she has not been officially identified.

The 48-year-old man will face Katherine Local Court on Monday on charges of driving resulting in death, and breaching a domestic violence order, however more charges are expected to be laid, Mr Cross said.

St John Ambulance operations manager Craig Garroway told Mix 104.9 the victim died at the scene, while the accused and a 48-year-old female passenger were taken to Katherine Hospital and remain there.

Kulgera crash kills one on Sunday morning

Mr Cross also said a 68-year-old man died in hospital on Sunday morning following a single vehicle crash about 50km east of Kulgera on Thursday.

The four-wheel drive “rolled a number of times” on the remote and unsealed Finke Road, Mr Cross said.

The driver and two passengers were flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and remain in Alice Springs Hospital.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the crashes and urge anyone with information on the Kulgera crash to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
