A man has been charged for allegedly physically and sexually assaulting his ex-partner in a home, and then on the side of the Stuart Highway near Howard Springs, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said the 42-year-old man who was arrested is alleged to have physically and sexually assaulted his ex-partner at a home in an specified location at an unspecified time on July 11.
Mr Wilton said the woman also alleged that soon after, between about 3:30pm and 4pm, she was physically assaulted in a gravelled area next to the outbound lanes of the Stuart Highway near Howard Springs, which is the area people use to park their cars for sale.
“The incident is alleged to have occurred nearby a white Toyota sedan and a white Hyundai Getz,” Mr Wilton said.
The man was arrested on Monday, and Mr Wilton said he was charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent, gross indecency without consent, indecent touching or act, depriving a person of personal liberty, aggravated assault, and choking and strangling or suffocating.
He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
Police are asking anyone who has information about the alleged assaults to call them on 131 444.
