NT Police have busted a 53-year-old man at a post office in Palmerston with allegedly “large” quantities of meth and cash believed to be obtained from drug trafficking.

Police said they arrested and charged the man on Friday, but it was not reported until Monday afternoon and the actual amount of cash and drugs seized was not released for some reason.

Detectives from the Drug and Organized Crime Unit allegedly found a “commercial quantity” of methamphetamine in the man’s possession while he was at the post office. It was unclear how long they may have been monitoring the man or if he had gone to the post office to retrieve or send a package.

Police said they subsequently executed a search warrant at the man’s residence where “items indicative of drug supply” were allegedly found including a traffickable amount of methamphetamine (quantity not mentioned), a significant sum of money (amount not mentioned), a prohibited weapon (not specified), three pots of cannabis plants and two swordfish rostrums.

The man was taken into custody and expected to face drug-related charges at the Darwin Local Court today, including two counts of supplying a commercial quantity of methamphetamine and possessing it, and “tainted property charges”.
