A 31-year-old East Arnhem man has been arrested and charged for allegedly producing and distributing child abuse material, NT Police said, following an anonymous tip off to Crime Stoppers.

The report was given to police on May 7, sparking the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch to travel to the unnamed remote community in the East Arnhem region on May 12 to execute a search warrant at the man’s residence.

Investigators seized multiple storage devices and a mobile device which contained child abuse material, police said.

The man was arrested and charged with transmitting child abuse material and possessing/producing child abuse material and remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on May 15.

“This behaviour is not accepted in our community and police will continue to go above and beyond to arrest anyone responsible for harming children in the NT community,” said Senior Sgt Justene Dwyer.

Police did not disclose how many victims are alleged to be involved.

“Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. You can also submit a report online at https://crimestoppers.com.au/” Sgt Dwyer said.

“You can also make a report online by alerting the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation via the ‘Report Abuse’ button at www.accce.gov.au/report.”
