A 23-year-old man was arrested by NT Police this morning after he allegedly used an umbrella to threaten staff and rob a business at Casuarina Square, making off with a small amount of cash.
Police said at around 10:30am they received reports that the man had used the umbrella to rob the business and had evaded shopping centre security guards.
The NT Independent understands Intersport was the business robbed and that the man had entered the store pointing the umbrella at staff and customers, pretending it was a gun.
He was later found in Marrara, police said, but it was unclear where exactly.
“This individual has caused a significant amount of stress to employees and shoppers,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier.
“We would like to commend the members of public who contacted police which allowed us to apprehend this individual quickly.”
The man is expected to be charged with one count of aggravated robbery.
