Two people in Palumpa were hit by a man using an unspecified “blunt weapon” on Wednesday, leaving them with unspecified injuries which required treatment, with the alleged offender unsuccessfully trying to steal their car before running off, and is still on the run, NT Police said.
Police and NT government crime marketing manger Sita Bacher said in a statement that about 5pm Wednesday in Palumpa, a 28-year-old man was assaulted with a blunt weapon while packing his belongings into a vehicle.
“The man was approached by the offender who attempted to steal the car keys,” Ms Bacher said.
While a 63-year-old woman, who got out of the vehicle to intervene, was also hit with a blunt weapon before the offender ran away, police allege.
Ms Bacher did not say what weapon was used, nor what injuries the man and woman suffered, only saying they were treated for their injuries.
Palumpa is a community about 50km southeast of Wadeye in the West Daly region, and is about 235km as the crow flies southwest of Darwin.
Police are requesting anyone with information to call them on 131 444.
