A man has been charged after allegedly riding a motorbike at 192km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Stuart Hwy while allegedly on cannabis and methamphetamine, NT Police said.

Commander Daniel Bacon said in a statement that about 12.30pm Sunday police clocked the black Suzuki motorbike allegedly travelling 192km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Stuart Hwy at Coolalinga.

He said the 32-year-old male rider was caught by police near the intersection of Virginia Rd, Virginia, where he also allegedly tested positive for cannabis and methamphetamine.

The man was charged with driving at a speed and in a manner that is dangerous to the public, and driving with a prohibited drug in the body, and is listed to appear at Darwin Local Court on August 10.

“This type of reckless behaviour puts everyone on the roads at risk,” Commander Bacon said.

“It was simply dumb luck that this individual didn’t kill themselves, another motorist or a pedestrian, driving in this manner while intoxicated.”
