A 23-year-old man was arrested by the NT Police Monday night after testing positive for drug use following a pedestrian strike in Katherine East, police said.
Police reported they were notified about a female pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Maluka Drive around 8:20pm, with the driver stopping to assist with the collision.
The driver, who was subjected to a roadside alcohol and drug test by responding police officers, tested positive for drugs, police said. The driver was unlicensed, resulting in his arrest “for the purposes of a toxicology assessment”.
Police said the victim suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Katherine District Hospital by St John Ambulance.
Witnesses and those with dash cam footage are urged to contact police on 131 444 and reference job number P25182020 to aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch and Strike Force Cerberus arrested a 14-year-old boy in relation to an aggravated robbery that occurred last week, allegedly involving a group entering a residence on Ronan Court wearing face coverings and carrying an axe, a shovel and a metal pole, which they swung at the residents.
Police reported that a search warrant was carried out at a residence in Katherine East at 9am Tuesday, which resulted in the boy’s arrest.
During a police search of his home, several items related to the crime were discovered, police said. He is currently in custody, and charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues.
