A 32-year-old Queensland woman was arrested with two kilos of meth allegedly concealed in her checked luggage at the Darwin Airport early Thursday morning as part of a Joint Organised Crime Task Force drug operation, with a 25-year-old man allegedly waiting to pick up the woman also arrested, NT Police said.

Detectives from the JOCTF and Gangs Task Force, supported by Australian Border Force officers, executed a search warrant on the woman around 12:30am on Thursday.

The two arrests were part of a larger drug operation that led detectives to execute another search warrant at a Palmerston home, seizing approximately 180 grams of cocaine, 28 grams of methamphetamine and “items indicative of drug supply”.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the Palmerston residence.

All three were charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug and possession of tainted property relating to the seizure and were expected to front court on Friday.

Police said in a statement those arrests were connected to a September 26 search of a Fannie Bay property and arrest of a fourth 20-year-old male, after police found one kilo of meth “linked to the same syndicate”.

The male was charged with possession and supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug and remanded to appear in court on November 26.

“This operation should serve as a warning to anyone attempting to import dangerous drugs into the Territory,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson.

“The three kilograms seized had a potential street value of around $3 million, money they attempted to make at the expense of vulnerable Territorians.

“These substances destroy lives and families, and we will continue to do everything we can to disrupt the flow into the community.”

AFP Acting Inspector Harrison Springfield said “advanced technologies” were evolving and helping police “disrupt drug trafficking networks at every stage”.

“This seizure is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our officers and our ongoing commitment to staying ahead of criminal enterprises.,” he said. “We will continue to adapt and innovate to protect Australia’s borders and communities from the threat of illegal drugs.”
