Letter to the editor: We need to legalise marijuana in the NT

by | Oct 24, 2024 | Opinion | 2 comments

Dear editor,

Here’s an idea with a lot of upsides, controversial, but what we’re doing now sure as hell isn’t working.

Let’s legalise marijuana and give First Nations people exclusive growing rights.

The government gets taxes, business get tourism, the First Nations people get a revenue stream and learn new skills. We create jobs and the domestic violence rate decline.

Fiona Collins, Batchelor

  1. This lady has not been to Tiwi Islands where Marijuana is so rife they need to import workers for anything to get done!
Marijuana ,and of course Alcohol, has devastated many families and non so more than indigenous families.

The fantasy of highly imagined fields of marijuana would be raided nightly by the locals!

Have you been to a community? They dont even attempt to grow their own food!
Apparently one community has a abandoned green house and water tank near it set by people a long time ago! Nobody has ever been interested in using it!

Great Idea, wrong high yield cash crop for the wrong demographic!,

  2. l think Fiona may have already sampled some of the crop?.
