Dear editor,
The NT government has effectively outsourced public housing and accountability to organisations like Venture and Yilli Housing.
It’s a neat arrangement for politicians: they pass off responsibility, keep their hands clean and let community chaos fester while the funding keeps flowing.
Across Territory communities, residents are dealing with violence, noise, and anti-social behaviour linked to poorly managed housing tenancies.
When complaints are made, people are met with silence, deflection, or polite templates.
The government calls these providers “partners,” but they’ve become little more than public relations buffers between the public and the people who are supposed to help them, which comes with plenty of time smiling for cameras, shaking hands, and posing for community photo ops.
Repeated and legitimate complaints about safety, behaviour, and housing standards are being ignored.
The organisation’s responses show no substance, no follow through, and no respect for their own policies or the damage their inaction is doing to NT communities.
Instead, they hide behind excuses about forms and processes while communities continue to suffer.
This isn’t just bad management, it’s systemic neglect.
When leadership becomes PR, when process replaces accountability, and when bureaucracy becomes a shield for inaction, the public loses faith.
Venture and Yilli Housing were meant to be solutions.
Instead, they’ve become taxpayer-funded distractions from a broken housing system.
The NT government can’t keep pretending this model works. Accountability can’t be contracted out.
It’s time for the government to stop outsourcing responsibility and start fixing the mess it created.

I agree with Luke’s letter. Some sore spots .
There are territorians who have no idea where they will sleep from day to day, good people who spend a good part of the day trying to find a place to stay, any accommodation found is typically for only a couple of days.
The public housing situation is a disgrace.
