Up to 200 people were in an Alice Springs sporting club when a massive brawl broke-out early Sunday morning with reports some were armed with edged and blunt weapons, NT Police said, while police are also investigating a crime spree across the town over the weekend that included six males breaking into an aged care facility at 2am and another incident that saw six puppies stolen.

Police said around 1:20 on Sunday morning, they were alerted to the brawl at “a sporting club on the Stuart Highway” where weapons had been used.

“Police attended and the alleged armed persons fled the scene,” said police media director Mark Wilton in a statement. “A 16-year-old male received treatment at the scene by paramedics for a minor hand injury.

“Police remained at the location until the crowd dispersed.”

Meanwhile, police are also calling for the public’s assistance in relation to the crime spree that started when the six males broke into the aged care facility, damaged the front gate and stole multiple vehicle keys from a safe in an office on site. One of the six males allegedly threatened a security guard with a blunt weapon when he approached them.

Police said the offenders stole a white Toyota van from the site and used it to ram through the property gate, while also damaging the windscreen of a security vehicle.

They then used the van a short time later to drive at police officers, “forcing evasive action to avoid a collision”, Mr Wilton said.

The van was later found burnt in Ilparpa with the offenders escaping custody.

Police said around 7:15am on Saturday they received a report that an animal shelter on Len Kittle Drive in Ilparpa had been broken into the previous evening around 11pm with six puppies being stolen from their cages.

“The offenders fled the scene and currently remain outstanding,” Mr Wilton said.

An aviation business also reported being broken into overnight Friday, with unknown offenders stealing items from a safe, but police did not specify what was stolen.

“It is unknown at this stage if the incidents are linked and the Southern Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating,” Mr Wilton said.

“Police urge anyone with information about the incidents to make contact on 131 444. Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.”

Anyone with information on the brawl at the club are being urged to contact police on 131 444 quoting reference P24246298 or via the other channels.
