A Labor candidate who sought endorsements from reviled former chief ministers Michael Gunner and Natasha Fyles appears likely to win the Nightcliff by-election with help from the CLP after preferences, according to updated figures on Monday afternoon.
The by-election was called after the first Greens member elected to NT Parliament Kat McNamara resigned last month citing health reasons. While the result was expected to be close, Labor’s forecast win has cost the Greens their only seat in an electorate heavily divided with only 63 per cent of registered voters casting ballots.
