A group of five youths, including two eleven-year-old boys, allegedly broke in an 84-year old’s house in Tennant Creek on Sunday, with one restraining her, while the others searched her property before running off, NT Police have said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said three females, aged 15, 16 and 16, were expected to be charged with aggravated robbery on Monday, while two eleven-year-old boys will be summoned at a later date.

He alleged that just before 5pm the 84-year-old woman had been confronted by the five kids, and one restrained her while the rest searched the property, before fleeing the scene.

“While being restrained, the woman suffered minor injuries and was treated by St John Ambulance,” he said.

Snr Sgt Becker said police identified and located a number of offenders through CCTV and arrested them on Monday morning.

“This was a cowardly act by the group, targeting an unsuspecting older woman inside her own home,” he said.

“The community have a right to feel safe within their homes and police will continue to prosecute anyone who chooses to behave in this manner.”
