A 25-year-old Katherine man has been arrested and charged with two counts of rape and other offences in connection to the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old, NT Police said.
The Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch arrested the man without incident at a residence in Katherine East on Saturday.
NT Police said the incident allegedly occurred between 9pm on Friday, May 16, and 2am on Saturday, May 17, near the walking path adjacent to the Stuart Highway between Maluka Road and the Katherine Police Station.
Police allege the female who was known to him.
The 25-year-old has been charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, one count of gross indecency without consent, and one count of deprivation of liberty.
He was remanded to appear at the Katherine Local Court on Monday, May 19.
Investigators have identified several witnesses through CCTV who may assist with their inquiries. They urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to contact 131 444.
