A 28-year-old Katherine man has been arrested and charged by NT Police with several offences relating to the alleged repeated sexual assault of children.

Detectives from the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch and the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) charged the man after being arrested in his residence in Katherine with two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10-years-old and gross indecency against a child under 10-years-old.

The man was also charged with five counts of possession of child abuse material, five counts of indecent dealing with a child under 10-years-old, and indecent dealing with a child under 16 years old.

It was unclear how many victims there were.

“This behaviour is completely despicable and our message to anyone who engages in this sort of abuse is simple, you will be caught,” Detective Senior Sergeant Jeremy Brunton said.

The suspect was due to appear in Katherine Local Court on Thursday.

No further details were provided.
