Darwin-based construction company Kalidonis NT Pty Ltd is appealing convictions and fines imposed by the Darwin Local Court following the death of 50-year-old worker Paul Leach.

NT WorkSafe initially charged Kalidonis with industrial manslaughter related to the death of Mr Leach, who died on March 20, 2020, when a chain snapped while he was extracting a bogged excavator at a construction site in Maningrida. Reports indicated that Mr Leach attempted to free the bogged machine using the same chains on two previous occasions without official authorisation.
