Jake Danby, the step-nephew of Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby, who bragged to friends and family about killing an Aboriginal man in a hit-and-run, had his sentence increased on Friday to two years home detention following an appeal of the original sentence.
Danby, 24, was sentenced in September to five months home detention and a 12-month community corrections order for killing one man and seriously injuring another in the hit-and-run outside Hibiscus Shopping Centre in June 2024, in which he was speeding when he struck the men and did not stop in part out of fear of being breathalysed.
