Informa Connect Australia will host this year’s Northern Territory Resources Week, bringing together three of Northern Australia’s leading industry events on September 18 and 19 at the Darwin Convention Centre.

Following the Northern Territory General Election of 2024, NT Resources Week is timed to allow you to speak directly with the newly elected NT Government and learn about their new priorities and plans for the industry.

This year is shaping up to be a cracker year, with enormous potential for project development across the Northern Territory. The Territory is in the box seat to provide a supermarket of LNG, clean energy, carbon storage, hydrogen, and critical minerals to meet surging global demand, drive decarbonisation, and provide energy security for Australia and our region.

Efforts are underway to develop the $1.5 billion Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct, which the Federal Government is funding. As a result of this investment, the industry will accelerate the development of infrastructure to process gas, refine liquids, process minerals, manufacture batteries, develop hydrogen technology, and capture and store carbon dioxide.

Arafura Resources has been awarded a $840 million federal grant to establish an Australian-first rare earths refinery and mine north of Alice Springs.

In addition to Santos’ Barossa project and other offshore gas opportunities, LNG’s crucial role in providing energy security to Asia’s trading partners will continue to drive new LNG infrastructure investments in the Northern Territory.

Associated gas pipeline infrastructure investment and project advancement in the Beetaloo and McArthur Basins are promising news for onshore gas development. This development will drive new gas-based manufacturing in the Territory and provide new gas supplies to the eastern states.

There is also the opportunity for the development of the Sun Cable large-scale solar project, new battery storage, and other critical enablers of the renewable energy transition in the Territory.

Further, the Federal Government is releasing the much-awaited First Nations Clean Energy Strategy, which will further lead to partnering and engaging with Indigenous communities in developing new renewable energy projects so that these communities can participate and benefit from the clean energy transformation.

Several final investment decisions will be made on leading resource projects in the NT this year, creating incredible new business opportunities for the more comprehensive service and supply sector.

The Northern Territory Resources Week conference will also see an impressive line-up of speakers attending the Joint Plenary, including NT Minister of Resources Madeleine King MP, Gas Taskforce, Lead – Investment Territory chairman Alister Trier, Pollination Group executive director Erica Lampropoulos, SunCable CEO Cameron Garnsworthy, Arafura Rare Earths Limited managing director Darryl Cuzzubbo, Deloitte Sustainability and Climate Change partner Celia Hayes, and NT Shadow Minister for Resources and Shadow Minister Senator Susan McDonald.

The South East Asia Australia Offshore & Onshore Conference (SEAAOC) is NT’s most significant and longest-established petroleum conference, which brings together major players in Australasia’s oil, gas, and petroleum industries.

This year’s SEAAOC conference will explore key themes such as a Clean energy future for Australia, Gas and energy outlook, Offshore Gas outlook, Onshore Gas – from development to production, Traditional Owner Engagement—Successful and Respectful Partnerships Achieving Shared Benefits and Economic Development, and Harnessing new opportunities (hydrogen, helium & golden hydrogen), among other topics.

Speakers for the SEAAOC conference include INPEX EVP for operations Chris Wilson, Empire Energy managing director Alex Underwood, Tamboran Resources VP for sustainability Scott Crabtree, Chevron Australia director of operations Danny Woodall, and Central Petroleum Limited CEO Ross Evans, among others.

Mining the Territory, the Northern Territory’s leading mining industry conference will also be part of NT Resources Week. From exploration and resource development to operation, market & logistics, this year’s discussion topics include the critical minerals strategy and its implications for the Territory, Policy and governance supporting industry growth, Social license, and community engagement, and Highlights from the Territory’s well-established resources sector, plus other critical topics.

Speakers for this event include Northern Australia Minerals Council of Australia executive director Cathryn Tilmouth, Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre CEO Shannon O’Rourke, Northern Territory Geological Survey senior executive director Dr Ian Scrimgeour, Tennant Minerals Ltd CEO Vincent Algar, Emmerson Resources CEO Mike Dunbar, Lithium Plus Minerals Ltd exploration manager Dr Bryce Healy, Glencore McArthur River Mining general manager Mark Furlotte, and other top mining executives.

This year’s Northern Territory Resources Week will also see more critical issues discussed in an NT Clean Energy and Decarbonisation Forum that brings together environmental practitioners and members of the resources industry to showcase ways for the mining and onshore gas sectors to manage their environmental impact better, while also supporting stakeholder engagement and regional development.

As part of Australia’s energy transition, the Northern Territory is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Clean energy projects and initiatives will be showcased, and decarbonisation efforts will be explored as part of the NT Clean Energy & Decarbonisation Forum.

Key themes to be covered this year include Energy transition towards net-zero, Realising a new energy future, Environmental innovation, Decarbonisation – a Territory and global priority, Environmental stewardship, clean energy supply chain, and the circular economy.

Forum speakers for this event are Larrakia Development Corporation CEO Nigel Browne, Tamboran Resources Limited VP for sustainability Scott Crabtree, Climate and Sustainability and Global Investment and Innovation Incentives (Gi³), Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu partner Gaurav Sareen, Net Zero Technologies, Australian Energy Producers director Brendan Beck, Middle Arm and Gas Manufacturing Gas Taskforce Unit, Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, Northern Territory Government director Dr Howard David Smith, Electricity Division | First Nations & Clean Energy Pipeline Branch, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water general manager Luana Cormac, and Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Northern Territory Government senior director Skefos Tsoukalis, among others.
