OPINION
The Gunner Government deserve the full marks they received for handling the public health pandemic with clear, unambiguous language and messaging. It was so important during those early days and provided certainty for everyone in uncertain times.
Now, we’re confused.
The Chief Minister’s plan to reopen the borders is near impossible to understand. Something about 60 days and then something about ‘not until it’s safe’, with no criteria offered for how to determine what “safe” is.
Now his Treasurer Nicole Manison appears to be contradicting him on the possibility of producing financial forecasts before the election. To be fair, he wasn’t exactly clear about that either.
We’re not sure if Mr Gunner’s speechwriter, advisors and social media people took a few days off or what, but ministers contradicting each other and mixed messages is not productive.
It’s time to get back to clear and decisive messaging. This pandemic isn’t over yet.
