The Federal Government has announced $250 million in renewable energy spending for the Northern Territory, which the Australian Conservation Foundation said it expects will in part go toward connecting solar plants to the grid that have sat unconnected for years, following warnings from the NT Utilities Commission of widespread blackouts starting over the next three years without investment in the system.
Environmental groups have also used the announcement to again voice opposition to the Albanese Government’s promise to spend $1.5 billion on infrastructure at the controversial Middle Arm industrial development, which was proposed to process gas from the Beetaloo Basin for export, but which will also be used for advanced manufacturing such a petrochemicals, production which has still not been ruled out by Chief Minister Eva Lawler.
What a joke! Solar is cheap if it’s sourced from rooftops for free, or if the taxpayer sinks money into transmission and firming.
