A new Darwin nightspot has opened with a legendary name that has been missing for more than a decade from the scene, with Sweethearts officially opening on Thursday on Mitchell Street as part of a multi-million dollar makeover.

The original Sweethearts was named after the giant crocodile captured on the Finniss River in the 1970s, and became a well-known local establishment famous for its piano bar.
