NT Police and Fire and Rescue Services are continuing their investigations into how a house caught on fire in Katherine yesterday.

NT Fire and Rescue Services said they received a call about the house fire on Jukes Cres at around 3pm on Sunday and eventually extinguished the fire, which had engulfed the entire property.

However, they found the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

“It is incredibly lucky no one was inside the residence at the time of the blaze,” said superintendent Pater Malley.

“NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to ensure smoke detectors are properly maintained and in working order. Any flammable material should be stored in approved containers and preparations taken to reduce fire hazards around the home.”

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
