Three youths who allegedly stole an unknown number of guns from a remote police station in Central Australia on Sunday have been arrested, NT Police said late on Tuesday afternoon.

Police allege that the three youths aged 11, 14, and 16, broke into a police accommodation in Kintore and stole keys to the station sometime on Sunday night.

They then entered the police station and stole “a number of firearms and police accoutrements”, police said.

Police also did not specify what equipment or uniforms were taken or if they have been recovered.

“Remote police and Aboriginal Liaison Officers worked with community members to recover all of the firearms and identify the youths, who were taken into police custody yesterday,” said police media manager Rob Cross in a statement.

It was unclear how police knew all of the firearms were recovered, without knowing how many had been taken.

“Investigations are ongoing with a number of youths assisting police with inquiries,” Mr Cross added.
