Kat McNamara and the independents in parliament have done a great job holding this bad government to account. I hope Nightcliff elects a new member who’ll follow in their footsteps and hold governments, regardless of party, to a high standard of accountability.
It’s up to the electors of Nightcliff of course, but a strong, hard working independent local member like Justine Davis would represent their constituents with distinction and enhance outTerritory democracy generally.
Interesting that the statement issued by Speaker Robyn Lambley referenced advising the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice as Acting Administrator of the Member for Nightcliff’s resignation. Perhaps an acknowledgment, despite her rulings from the Chair in Parliament last week, of who is actually the current NT Administrator.

Ed Smelt will jump at this opportunity

I must add – I extend my kind thoughts and best wishes to Kat.
This is bad news!
This MLA really made the CLP and its current leader seriously uncomfortable in question time, like no other.
l live in Nightcliff unfortunately we will elect a lefty fruit loop.
Would a right wing fruit loop be better Nelson?
Hopefully no fruit loop, but that’s not what happens in Nightcliff.
Have you soon how thin the talent is in the NT?
We would be lucky to have a fruit loop as a MLA!

Is it possible that racism, sexism and misogyny will be election issues – along with government
accountability?
