The NT Government and the City of Darwin will target graffiti along Lee Point Rd and Vanderlin Drive as part of a $1.73 million project to “beautify our streets”.

More than 70 properties have been identified to have graffiti removed as part of the joint initiative set to kick off next month.

“Works will be conducted by government contractors, and involve a range of treatments including painting over graffiti and replacing shade cloth where applicable,” the government said in a release.

“Nineteen properties on Vanderlin Drive and 56 properties on Lee Point Road have been identified, with works to begin in February.”

The graffiti removal project is part of a previously announced $1.73 million funding agreement between the NT Government and the City of Darwin, which will also see female change rooms built at Malak Oval and electronic speed check signs at a number of Darwin schools.

“The graffiti on Lee Point Rd and Vanderlin Drive is a real eyesore and something residents want to see addressed,” said Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis.

“We are happy to partner with the Northern Territory Government to tackle the problem.

“City of Darwin has major plans for this area, including the duplication of Lee Point Rd.”

Infrastructure Minister Eva Lawler said the funding would mean “continuing employment opportunities”.

“We are listening to our community and delivering projects and support where it matters,” she said.

“The removal of the graffiti will revitalise Lee Point Road and Vanderlin Drive.”
