  1. I’m surprised NTPol aren’t inundated with applications. Surely the enticement of a selfie with the Commissioner at graduation, would make NTPol the LEA of choice.

  2. Rubbish… NT Police are the best renumerated in the country. Cops aren’t leaving because of low pay. They are leaving due to poor conditions and the standard behaviour of the public they are supposed to police. Their executive is littered with bullshit political wokeness and their own ambition for political careers. There are some good ones there, but they have to navigate the crocodiles and tow the line.

NTPolice need to be supported by a robust justice system. This is what is burning them out. Arresting the same individuals over and over again only to have them commit more and more crimes. We may not be able to “arrest ourselves” out of this problem, but the only way we are going to improve safety on the streets and in your homes is to separate the criminals from the community.

The NT is the most over-policed jurisdiction in the country. We don’t need more cops, the cops need less criminals.

    • @ A Servant ,,,,, correction to your statement. NT police are not the highest paid in Australia. That would correctly be Western Australia Police and they have been highest paid police in Australia consistently for past 35+ years. Northern Territory police and NSW police are back and forth each enterprise bargaining agreements in 2nd and 3rd place.
However, a Federal Police Officer who opts for offshore deployments beats all of them, by way of benefits and allowances alone which can actually exceed the salary of a Western Australian police officer. For example, AFP deployed off shore in International peacekeeping receive a daily allowance in addition to salary , both taxed and tax-free that can reach as much as almost $400 per day.)

    • “The NT is the most over-policed jurisdiction in the country” This is a profound statement and not at all true. The statement suggests a belief that all jurisdiction require X police per capita. Countries like Iceland and Luxembourg have extremely low crime rates and the police numbers are low per capita. Canada has 221 officers per Capita across the country, but significantly higher in some regions of the Commonwealth. Compare that to Australia with 282 per capita nation wide, while Austria has 355, or the small British protectorate of Gibraltar has 855. The Northern Territory has 730 per Capita. You also need to consider also that NT Police is the last remaining Police Force in Australia. In the states, they are called Police Service. Unlike the OZ states, NT Police hold both “state” and federal powers, while States only have State powers. NT Police are responsible for management of Emergency and disasters including aviation crashes, Fisheries, and other duties that in the states are performed by non-police agencies. In remote areas, also are responsible for vehicle registrations, licensing, quarantine and so on. Putting it in perspective, NT Police do not have enough troops to cover the widespread duties they need to perform in a jurisdiction with the highest crime rates in Australia.
