A 43-year-old man who intervened in a carpark fracas in Eaton between a man and a woman was hospitalised after being assaulted by the man and another unknown man still at large, NT Police said.

Authorities said around 3pm on Wednesday, a 54-year-old man and 49-year-old woman were having “an altercation” in a carpark.

It’s understood the two people were known to each other and that the altercation was a domestic violence situation.

The 43-year-old bystander then tried to stop the fight and was allegedly bashed by the 54-year-old man and a 29-year-old man and sent to hospital.

It’s not known if the 29-year-old man is related to the man or woman involved in the confrontation.

The man who tried to be a good Samaritan ended up in a hospital to seek treatment from injuries he sustained in the assault.

Police said he has been discharged and is in a stable condition.

It’s not known if the woman sustained any injuries as well.

NT police said they arrested the 54-year-old man at the carpark and was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering serious harm.

He appeared at the Darwin Local Court Friday.

“The victim has attempted to intervene in what appears to be a domestic violence incident and he was himself assaulted,” Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said.

“The behaviour of these two men is disgusting and police will find the second offender.”

Police are still searching for the 29-year-old involved in incident.

Sr Sgt Budge said their investigation continues and asked anyone who may have witnessed the fight to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference 9856818.
