Former NT Police Commissioner Paul White has died after his bike and a car collided in South Australia on Sunday, South Australian Police reported.

In a statement an un-named South Australia Police spokesman said officers were investigating the death of a cyclist, saying the 72-year-old Glenunga man died at the scene at the intersection of Portrush Rd and Myrona Ave, Glen Osmond, while a 61-year-old male driver from St Georges was being questioned by major crash officers.

In another statement Northern Territory Police Acting Commissioner Murray Smalpage said it was with great sadness he advised of the death of Mr White.

He said Mr White retired from the NT Police Fire and Emergency Services in October 2009 after eight years as Police Commissioner, and chief executive officer of the organisation, after joining the South Australian Police as a cadet in 1968 and rising to Assistant Commissioner before starting his appointment in the Territory.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr White’s family and friends during this difficult time,” he said.
