Five men have been charged charged with drug possession and supply after allegedly being caught driving with drugs to an un-named remote community, northwest of Alice Springs, NT Police have said.

Acting Superintendent Daniel Bell said in a statement that on October 28, local police intercepted a vehicle, carrying four men, travelling into an un-named remote community, northwest of Alice Springs, in the Central Desert.

He alleged they found an undisclosed amount of cannabis and other drug paraphernalia, and all four men, aged between 23 and 25, were charged with drug possession and supply offences and will appear in court at a later date.

Supt Bell said a short time later, police intercepted a second vehicle carrying two adults and three children, and found an undisclosed amount of cannabis and a large number of small unused clip seal bags.

He said the 33-year-old man was charged with possession and supply of a traffickable quantity of a dangerous drug in an indigenous community, and is expected to appear in court a later date.

“The carriage of illicit substances into any community, but more particularly remote communities in the Northern Territory is an extremely serious offence,” he said.
