Greg Shamahan? Huh. He accepted a gong once. That explains a lot.
Marvel at how The Total Protection Machine properly kicks into gear.
There’s so much to love about this article, for commenting purposes only however.
Let’s see how much Selena Stays Silent has to say about punishing this crime and exposing all the bad actors involved in both Police and her ALP at that time.
We would bet our house on the little green section on the big roulette wheel called ZERO.
It’s rare to see such a glaring example of a high level cover up in full public view in our opinion. Just from the reported facts, here’s the summary:
It’s hard to know who’s really directing who – are the NT Police telling the NT Government “here’s what we’re doing, and here’s what you need to do to help us keep this quiet” or is it the other way around with NTG telling NTP “here’s what we’ll do to help you escape any consequences” – but the outcome is the same no matter what the chain of command.
We don’t believe at all that only the NTP is running this scam.
They need and are obviously getting high level NTG assistance.
There is no way that Michael Much More Riches told NTP they could escape consequences for this without getting some form of permission from senior NTG officers, legal officers and/or relevant politicians at that time. That would be the ALP.
It’s also uncontroversial to state that due to the long term nature of this comeditragic institutional cover up, the upper levels of both the ALP and the CLP have been actively involved and played some part in it.
As it’s still relevant and in the media and public consciousness then the CLP is also responsible for currently and actively doing nothing.
The main losers in all of this are the Public and the public trust in not only the NTP but in both political parties (something we’ve been saying for quite a while now) and also in the Rule of Law.
There are many other losers too let’s not forget.
It’s very clear for all to see that there is a Two Tier Justice System alive and well in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Can you imagine if a Government whistleblower had lied in their statutory declaration to the Court while alerting the public to corruption in government ranks? They would have been publicly named and shamed and criticised by whoever they were trying to expose. And most likely jailed for doing so by one of the many NTG friendly judges on the circuit.
And here is the CLP Crappy Little Party shouting loudly about how “tough on crime” they are by locking up 10 year olds.
But not so “tough on crime” when it’s their mates in the NTP.
Where is the Attorney Generally Rubbish in all her legal advice glory?
Where is the statement talking about how the laws of the land should apply to everyone and that her Government is determined to weed out corruption in the NTP and show the electorate how committed they are to following the rules no matter who is breaking them?
Also. Silent.
Here’s the disgraceful roll call:
Senior NTP officers definitely had a hand in either soliciting and/or advising the junior NTP officers to write and submit those statutory declarations to the Coroner.
The NTP Union is absolved at this stage.
The ICAC Michael Much More Riches gave them a free pass at the start of his ‘investigation’ (we use this term loosely), obviously after receiving advice or support from someone/some people high up in NTG circles.
Who was he talking to? What were those conversations and assurances given?
If you go back to the time that Zac Rolfe was charged, look who was involved at that time:
‘The day after the shooting, current acting-ICAC Greg Shanahan attended a meeting with then-chief minister Michael Gunner, then-police minister Nicole Manison, Natasha Fyles, then-head public servant Jodie Ryan, Jamie Chalker and Michael Murphy, according to the previous ICAC’s Operation Crimen report into allegations of political interference in the charging of Mr Rolfe.
Mr Shanahan attended the meeting in his role as then-chief executive of the Department of Attorney-General and Justice.’
Then you had Ms Patricia Kelly SC, former President of the South Australian Supreme Court of Appeal, as a delegate of the ICAC who said she was not investigating further because it was “not in the public interest” to do so.
This media release was signed by Naomi Loudon who previously worked for 8 years in the NT DPP office.
You now have the Coroner, who was the one lied to, skipping past the issue with just a passing nod to it.
You had more than one DPP who has refused to get involved or from the last article, stated that they deliberately shut down any prosecution of those 5 NTP officers after receiving a file of evidence from the NTP themselves.
The ALP Also Likeminded People will do and say nothing due to their own involvement is this sordid affair.
And the turd-cherry on top of this steaming pile of cowshitcake is the current CLP Corrupt Likeminded People.
They have all the power at the moment to do something unique.
There is one person, on paper at least, who has the power to end this kind of high level corrupt and illegal cover up once and for all.
One person: Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro will got a raise of more than $16,400 a year for a total salary of $350,000, plus other numerous perks, entitlements and benefits, in November last year.
$350,000 to accept and ignore criminal behaviour in her own Police Ministry.
What a way to signal to the watching world what your ‘new’ Finocchiaro/Burke Government is all about!
The Chief Minister, who is also the Police Minister, could stamp her political authority all over this and finally do the right thing for the Institutions as well as for the Public she is supposed to serve.
She could clear out some of the racist dead wood in the NTP, show everyone that she stands by her desire for transparency and accountability that she screamed for while in opposition.
She could lead by example and show the rest of the NT political landscape that she means business and won’t stand for this kind of brutal f**k you to everyone outside of high level Government circles.
That the old days are gone, it’s a new sheriff in town now and things are going to change.
Or she could just do as she’s been told to by the Greg Shamahans and all the other ‘old heads’ in the same old tired political arena.
People like Alastair Shields From The Public, the Ken Dav-L-ies (thank you Cardifghtback for all your previous work in that area), the NT judges who sexually harass their staff, the high level Solicitors for the NT who silence and abuse whistleblowers for speaking up.
All those kinds of stellar public servants.
Sadly LiaR Finocchiaro has already tied her colours to the mast and told an Independent MLA Justine Davis to “walk over to the DPP and tell them yourself if you think something wrong has happened” when quizzed about her inaction previously.
It’s such an EPIC FAIL of Governance.
But it is a DELIBERATE FAILURE, make no mistake.
That purposeful failure is a cast iron INSTITUTIONAL COVER UP.
Collusion, Conspiracy and Collaboration to Cover up.
At the highest levels of NT Life.
NT Police
NT Government Officers
ICAC
DPP
SFNT
ALP
CLP
There are so many examples of the NT Criminal Code Act being breached it’s almost funny. We’ve mentioned many of them before.
The DPP is your most powerful puppet actor in this, in our opinion.
All evidence for charging considerations goes through that office. The senior political players can work in the background, quietly and effectively, to secure the DPP’s compliance.
Then they distance themselves and let the DPP announce that it’s either “not in the public interest to pursue criminal charges” or “there is insufficient evidence” without explaining why not or showing us what evidence they have and informing us why it is not sufficient.
Clockwork Orange Attorney General Marie-Clare Boothby will spout out her usual gobbledygook of misdirection and claim everything is fine, nothing to see here, moving on….
If we, as a Territory, have any aspirations at all about having a Government that works for the people then it is obvious what needs to happen.
Use this as an example to draw on when you are trying to figure out how to clean up this stinking congested sewerage works.
We have to powerclean out the Government bodies and agencies and offices and groups and law offices of these powerful and dishonest bad actors.
They clog up and poison the mechanisms of Government.
As we’ve said time and time again, both the ALP and the CLP are exactly the same when it comes to not only their inaction but in their purposeful collusion in setting up the system to protect themselves and their friends.
It is created and maintained to benefit the few above the many.
And yet it is so easy to fix. That’s the shameful part.
Everyone who stays silent on this massive problem of NT Governance, or tries to lay the blame solely at the feet of one sad little group over the other sad little group (yes we’re looking at you Professor Boofby and all like you) is assisting and enabling the rot.
THIS GAME IS RIGGED. But it needn’t be this way forever.
It’s time for a total ‘Change For Better’.
The Institutional Powercleaners you’ve been looking for.
There is one clear means whereby every adult can express disgust and a reaction to current and past NT Govts and senior NT Police failures to conform. As is expected? Every single territorian has been denied personal and community right(s) to “know”. That our democratic, fundamental beliefs now functionally a disaster. REFUSE TO VOTE! Demand Federal intervention! Either, all? Accept the inevitable “COST”. AND / OR COLLAPSE!
The system is working as designed. No one held accountable, no one responsible, and not a single proper investigation.
Great work NT Independent. Our #1 news outlet.
Coroner Elisabeth Armitage has zero credibility!
The cops are, ironically, a protection racket!!!
So if your a business owner thinking of investing in the NT would you be worried the local justice system governing where you want to spend your money in, is as flexible as a third world nation with no repercussions for senior government bureaucrats??? Eff that!
Underbelly! What a Croc…!
Can’t wait for the STAN series. This is one of the most transparent cases of corruption and coverup yet. These politicians and executives still believe its just gunna go away. The arrogance to ignore the corrupt officers is abhorrent and a clear symptom of a failed government. I have no doubt they continue to be rewarded for their loyalty whilst persecuting Junior officers for minor infractions. How any of their subordinate officers can respect or trust them is beyond me.
They ard and will continue to be dishonourable officers. How many cases would be brought into question if these officers are found guilty of deception, fraud and corruption?
