A 42-year-old man who allegedly beat his partner on Dick Ward Drive in Coconut Grove on Saturday afternoon has been arrested, while another man who sexually assaulted a woman on the same street on Thursday night in an unrelated incident has been charged with attempted rape, NT Police said.

In the Saturday afternoon incident, it is alleged the 42-year-old man assaulted his female partner, knocking her unconscious around 1:30pm.

First aid was administered to the female victim by witnesses before the police arrived at the scene. The offender was arrested by responding officers at the scene.

The victim, whose age remains unspecified, was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

The man has been charged with aggravated assault; choking, strangling, or suffocating; intending to cause serious harm or causing harm; as well as making a threat to kill. He is in custody and scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact the police at 131 444 and reference NTP2500070677.

Meanwhile, police have charged a 19-year-old man over the Thursday night incident at the corner of Dick Ward Drive and Progress Drive.

Police said they received a report around 10pm that a female was physically and sexually assaulted by a male who fled the area after members of the public intervened.

He was arrested a short time later while the female was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment.

Police said on Monday the 19-year-old has now been charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent, gross indecency, and aggravated assault. He was expected to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Police had said on Friday they were investigating whether the man knew the female victim.

“This incident occurred in a very public place, in full view of pedestrians and motorists. The reported offending is abhorrent and brazen and has no place in our Community,” Detective Senior Sergeant Caragh Hen said.

Investigations remain ongoing; anyone with information is urged to contact police and reference job number NTP2500070146. Anonymous reports can also be made via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.
