Geek Culture Collective’s TROPiCON event will be held in Darwin for the first time at the Darwin Entertainment Centre on Saturday, October 1, expected to draw all pop culture geeks to celebrate what they love – cosplay, esports, collectibles and board games.
TROPiCON, which adds a new dimension to the Territory’s events calendar, will bring together all small geek-based groups and engages with the larger non-geek community in sharing their passions.
“Everyone has something they ‘geek out’ about,” said Geek Culture Collective chairman Nestor Sanchez.
“Come meet your people, or try something new, you may just find a new passion.”
Geek Culture Collective is a not-for-profit organisation, that will hold the TROPiCON event with the following highlights:
- Cosplay competition and parade;
- Role play games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars, Paizo Pathfinder and Starfinder;
- Board games such as Settlers of Catan and Blood on the Clock Tower;
- Miniature-painting workshops including Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar;
- Esports competitions, a free-to-play gaming hub, a video game design studio;
- Territory-built video games; and
- Exhibitors and stalls, artist alley and competition, and special guests.
Early Bird tickets are on sale from Friday, July 29, with a celebratory launch and information session happening the same day at Mad Snake Café in the Darwin CBD from 6 to 9 pm.
More programming will be announced closer to the date.
TROPiCON is supported by the Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company. To find out more, including how to be involved, visit Geek Culture Collective’s website.
