The Endeavour Group has purchased Darwin’s The Cavenagh Hotel from Mick Burns’ company, it has been reported.

The NT News reported that the Cavenagh Street pub, which was owned by Mr Burn’s Salsa Holdings, sold for an undisclosed amount.

The Endeavour Group through its ALH Hotels arm, owns 350 licensed venues across Australia, including five others in Darwin: The Beachfront; the Airport Tavern; the Parap Tavern; the Palmerston Tavern; and The Bell Bar and Bistro.

It also owns Dan Murphy’s bottle shops.

The Cav, as it is known locally, has been trading since 1932 and was at one point known as The Don Hotel.

As the Don, it became the venue of Darwin’s first casino.

The NT News reported that Endeavour Group management said the atmosphere and service of The Cavenagh would remain the same and that any changes would be keeping within the essence of the pub.

“We’re committed to maintaining its unique charm and ensuring it remains a welcoming spot for everyone,” a unnamed spokesman was quoted as saying.

“We understand how much The Cav’s character means to the community; the atmosphere, the friendly service, and of course, the best steak in town. Rest assured, these elements will remain unchanged and will continue to be the heart and soul of The Cav experience.

“It’s an honour for us at the Endeavour Group to become the custodians of such an iconic venue, and we’re dedicated to preserving what makes The Cav great, while also looking for ways to enhance and protect it for the future.”

“Any improvements we make will be thoughtful and in keeping with the essence of what you love about The Cav. We can’t wait to welcome the community and continue to provide the exceptional experience you’ve come to expect from The Cav.”
