A woman involved in a single vehicle car crash at the entrance to a caravan park in Berry Springs last week has died from injuries sustained in the incident, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Police issued a statement on Monday to explain that the crash occurred around 4pm last Tuesday at the entrance to the caravan park on Doris Road in Berry Springs.

The 59-year-old female driver was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance after sustaining serious injuries in the crash.

Police said the woman succumbed to those injuries on Friday.

“A report will be prepared for the coroner,” police said in the statement, adding that the investigation into the circumstances was ongoing.

No further details were provided.

Fifty-two people have now died on Territory roads this year.

A recent road safety report found the per capita road fatality rate in the NT is 3.2 times the national rate and the highest in Australia.

NT Police launched their ‘Towards Zero Road Safety Action Plan 2024-28’, in July, in response to the alarming number of road deaths in the NT, pledging more police presence, random breath tests, roadside drug tests, and roving speed cameras.

There were 31 NT road deaths in 2023.
