The driver of a car involved with a fatal crash in Jabiru last week has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving causing death, NT Police have said.

NT Police media manager Rob Cross said police allege the 37-year-old male driver was drunk and speeding when the car crashed while turning right from Waterhouse Rd into Civic Drive, in the centre of the town on Friday night.

He said a 58-year-old man, who was an unrestrained rear passenger died as a result.

The driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, recklessly endangering serious harm, and driving under the influence of alcohol, Mr Cross said.

He said the man had been bailed to appear before Darwin Local Court on December 14, and further drink driving charges were expected once forensic toxicological analysis is completed.
