Papua New Guinea’s Auditor-General has more independence from the executive branch of government than the Northern Territory’s, according to a startling report, which has raised concerns about how effectively the NT Government is held to account for its exorbitant spending of taxpayer funds.
The updated 2025 Report on the Independence of Auditors General by the Australasian Council of Auditors has found the NT ranks behind every other Australian jurisdiction, as well as New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, a position NT Auditor-General Jara Dean said was “disappointing but not surprising” given the lack of action from consecutive NT governments.
Where is the uproar and protest street marches on Parliament by Territorians about how upset they are about how poorly they are governed?
Territorians are apathetic sheep who did not bat a eyelid when their debt went from 1.6 Billion to 15 billion with minimal to show for that massive debt that will never be paid off.
