Going on a 1920s-style bar hop, or attending a banquet feast while listening to murder ballads being sung by roving performers, are two of the options in an expanded Taste of Darwin program at this year’s Darwin Festival, which will also see the return of Hanuman restaurant, the organisers have said.

Darwin Festival artistic director Kate Fell said the Taste of Darwin program will double in size this year with six events, while chef Jimmy Shu’s Hanuman restaurant will be at the festival after a break of four years, Flora’s Temper Mexicantina will be making its debut, and Darwin’s Willing Distillery and Alice Springs Brewing Co will be selling alcohol.

Ms Fell announced two of the food events today, one being the City Cocktail Experience, where guests can choose between a 1920s-style bar hop or a tropical bar hop, while the other is the Gloom and Gourmet Dinner, a feast at Parap Fine Foods, which will be made into a red-lit banquet hall with guests sung murder ballad by roving performers.

“Last year’s Taste of Darwin events were a huge hit and sold out fast, so we’re excited to not only bring them back but double the offering with truly unique experiences that showcase the spirit of Darwin,” Ms Fell said.

“Hanuman’s long-anticipated return brings an iconic flavour back to the Festival, while Flora’s Temper Mexicantina adds an exciting new layer to our culinary landscape.

“With more reasons than ever for food lovers to head to Festival Park during Darwin Festival, it’s set to be a true celebration of Territory flavours.”

Taste of Darwin curator Neville Pantazis said that every Taste of Darwin presented a surprising and unique experience.

“Darwin’s food and bar scene is vibrant, diverse and truly multicultural. We’re serving up fresh, fun, and unforgettable experiences that celebrate the essence of Australia’s northernmost capital,” Mr Pantazis said
