  1. Think Kons days may be numbered.

    • What a prize bunch of p****wits these councillors and employees have turned out to be …..
Get rid of the lefty imbeciles, hijacking a memory NONE of the councillors have been a part of is immature and imbecilic….

  2. Unveiling of controversial artwork to remember Cyclone Tracy after 50 years draws outcry from survivors.

“Nobody is going to, regrettably, look at this 50th anniversary commemoration and feel it was done well by Darwin City Council” Mr Lucio Matarazzo said. “It’s one of huge disappointment.”

Mr Lucio Matarazzo said it was a very multicultural vibrant society in 1974, and they were very instrumental in getting Darwin rebuilt after Cyclone Tracy and I do not think Darwin City Council have given them the honour they deserve for the sacrifices they made.

  3. Is NT Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro attending this Darwin City Council VIP Event ? If yes why ?

  4. As a CT survivor with fallopian tubes, I have absolutely no interest in being anywhere near any celebrations run by non-survivors without fallopian tubes. Besides which, I have the best stories to tell about the night and aftermath. Yes, we worked bl**dy hard to get things moving again. We did it for love. It had to be done. Only survivors of these catastrophes know the fantastic feeling of helping each other through the haze. I enjoyed being an essential part of the community with a role to play. This is so rare in our smug, self-satisfied
‘economy’. It was only when I was ordered to take R&R ‘down south’ and finished up in Sydney for two weeks, that I and my then 3 and a half year old son, Sam, suffered ‘flashbacks’ (wind-tunnels in the skyscraper streets with windows rattling and tree branches falling in the parks making us run for cover. etc.). Only then did I realise the trauma that had been held back. But, I was so pleased to get back. Before Tracy and in its aftermath, we lived with hardships. We slept in ‘substandard’ open, non-air-conditioned houses and flats. We lived on limited supplies until the Darwin Trader arrived with fresh (??) supplies and we had market gardens that supplied us with tropical fruit and vegetables. I’ve been pleased to get back from places I’ve travelled and worked in for 50 years. The people here now who only care about how much money they make and blame others for their own mistakes and always complain about how hot it is, wouldn’t survive another Tracy. They certainly wouldn’t have survived the old Darwin lifestyle.

  5. Kon’s denials over this debacle stinks to me in the same way that ( first ICAC Commisioner) Fleming having jumped on a ( taxpayer funded) plane to Yuendemu, declared “ Black Lives Matter” over the microphone-

It is soo outrageously improper that it’s declaring “ I am an f…g idiot, and should never be taken seriously again.
Kon, like Ken then, if you can’t cop it sweet and admit you’re wrong, then get out of the way!

  6. Kon seems to think he is the controller of your right to free speech. It is not for him, or Council, to “permit” you to protest. Out of courtesy, Council has been advised some people will be in the same area at the same time to exercise their right to speak freely.

  7. Why do ‘survivors’ feel the need to be ‘relevant’ 50 years later? It’s not that important to most people living in Darwin who weren’t here at the time. Many people have survived disasters…get together privately if you want to keep talking about it.

    • Well it is was relevant enough for the DCC or COD to fraudulently acquire taxpayers money to build a so called memorial monstrosity without consultation to those they were pretending to represent.

You are missing the point Maatee. Your money was fraudulently acquired by council. They pretended they cared for Territorians. Thus depriving that money offered by the Federal government for the intended use. Instead it is now a wankfest by Kon getting to sit next to the PM. What a joke he is.

    • I would assume that you weren’t here. Therefore you have no idea. Your attitude exemplifies the reason that Darwin became a Southern Sinkhole and lost its character. For that, I have no forgiveness, you imports have destroyed the best city in Australia, not for our coffee, nor donuts, nor danishes or pies but our people and their attitudes and respect for others.
You seem to have a void of understanding and when the next one comes, I hope you are flying a biggg kite.
Just a typical lack of any respect from an inexperienced and ignorant Johnny come Lately. Go home

  8. This is working out great. With Vatskalis and his arrogant imports hijacking our long-awaited event, and an alternative event diluted into insignificance, as far as I was concerned the genuine get together of survivors had been cancelled. Ironically, the fraudsters having provoked a protest, I will now get to catch up with genuine CT survivors. The only thing that could make me happier would be for the council to be put into administration and for the NT Government to permanently end costly duplication with a simple Department of Local Government that actually restricts itself to local services as explicitly required by the residents of Darwin.
