Darwin prisons will be forced into “restricted conditions” next week, as NT corrections officers expand protected industrial action to walk off the job for multiple 12-hour shifts that the Corrections Commissioner says will create “significant disruption”, which comes amid stalled negotiations on a new enterprise bargaining agreement that saw officers in Alice Springs march through the streets last Friday in protest.
The planned strike action in Darwin will cover consecutive 12-hour shifts starting at 7am on Wednesday April 1 and conclude at 7am on April 2. It will affect the Darwin-Holtze Correctional Centre, the Berrimah Correctional Centre and other “Darwin gazetted prisons”, the government said.
