Coroner Elisabeth Armitage has delayed the release of her findings from the inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker for nearly another month at the request of the families involved, which follows the death in custody of another Yuendumu man last week in Alice Springs during a failed arrest.
Ms Armitage, who began her coronial inquest into Mr Walker back in September 2022, was scheduled to release her findings on June 10 in Yuendumu, but has now pushed the release date back to July 7, to be delivered “either in Yuendumu or Alice Springs, depending upon the wishes of the community,” NT Courts said on Monday.
“A court spokesman said the delay comes at the request of the Parumpurru Committee of Yuendumu and the Brown, Walker, Lane and Robertson families.”
